Established as Port Scarburgh in 1680,
Onancock was already thriving as a Native trading spot
when the colonists moved in.

I'll content myself with putting pictures on this page
and reserve my comments for the blog.

Welcome to
Onancock, Virginia

(or 'Nancock' as the locals call it)

As always, most photos 'clickable' for enlargement

This gorgeous shot is by Patrick J. Hendrickson of HighCamera.com

The wharf is, for the most part, very nice. It's clean and well ordered.

And the sunset at the end of a stormy day was beautiful

And across the foggy creek from the wharf is also interesting

I love the old public houses and the old private homes,

Some refurbished for Bed and Breakfasts

some well cared for on the public's behalf

and some serve as shops but are ill used and badly dealt with.

some in good repair, some headed that way again

some maintained consistantly through the years
and some being brought back to life

And Onancock has a movie theater and a bank that looks like a real bank and churches, too

The old Corner Bakery had the best donuts on the Shore

some things old, some in transition and some sporting surprising new exteriors

And Onancock has a little park that is one of the most appealing parts of the town

Read the monument
Read the monument

and here's a monument to another resident who spent his life contributing to his community.

And before you leave town there is one 'must visit' place!
Or if you need anything while you're here. If you need clams for dinner,
if you need to fix your plumbing,
if your boat lost a cleat or
if you forgot someone's birthday 'til the last minute (even a kid).

Don't panic!
Visit The House of Deals.

I needed a step down for a camper electrical supply once
and no one in four towns had one. I know - I checked everywhere.
Then I remembered The House of Deals.
They had two of 'em. I wish I'd bought both.
Whenever I need anything now, I think of them first!

And thanks, also, to Faith Miller for her photo contributions, the bank, the movie theater, a church and a house.
