"The only facts I have are :

1.There is a charted island called Sandy Island situated about a mile NW of the beach at Cape Charles city.
2.There are the remains of heavy industrial concrete building foundations that are submerged at high tide.
3.There is the base of a large brick chimney and what looks like a large set of brick steps that are visible at high tide."

"The rest is hearsay :
1.About 100 + years ago a major fish processing plant ( like the one at Oyster ) was situated on Sandy Island.
2.Some say it processed menhaden.
3.Some say it was abandoned about 50-60 years ago."
